SEO is a marathon and not a sprint. Most practitioners and those curious about SEO know that. But what are some of the easy actions that you can take to improve SEO without having to create fresh content?

UPDATED! This is one of our most popular posts for the Last Few Years. Read this ultimate guide to the Correct SEO Techniques that are working Successfully in 2019! Let's take a look:

1. Take your Top-Ranking Pages & Improve Their CTR

To improve the Click Through Rate (CTR), you will need to rewrite the title tag. The title tag is the HTML element that talks about the title of a web-page. Now you have to write a title tag to convince people to click on your page.

For this, you have to add power words (words that draw on human emotions), brackets (to Boost readability), avoid the title getting cut off in the SERP.

2. Take the Most Important Pages and Optimize Them For Speed

You can achieve this by reducing the size of your images on the page, allowing browser caching, and to optimize your website speed to use Google Page Speed Insights tools.

3. Refresh Content That's Getting Increasingly Less Traffic

Perform a content audit, and identify content pages with decreasing traffic. Update the content to make changes that you think will drive more traffic.

This could be done by adding more relevant, high-ranking keywords. You should make this a regular practice. Regularly rewrite content that is getting less traffic, and see if you can make a dent in the content universe.

4. Fill The Content Gaps

If your page is ranking for a specific topic, then it will also rank for several related keywords, and subtopics. That's why Google sometimes shows the same results for different closely-related keywords.

So the trick is cover everything about one topic in intricate detail, include all possible sub-topics. This will go a long way in improving the ranking and direct more traffic to the page.

Further, your ranking for the primary keyword may develop because of 'phrase-based indexing' and 'co-occurrence.'

5. Snatch Back-Links From Outdated, Poorly Written Raking Pages

Identify pages that are ranking despite having outdated and low-quality content on them. Several third-party tools can help you identify such pages for a given set of keywords. Just check the referring domains filter to 50+, date filter to 3 years+, and word count filter to 1000 word+.

Once these filters and the keyword you input throw up results, you have to check them to find weak content pages manually. Once you do, check the backlinks report for that page. Contact each of these websites, and offer them a better option for backlinks.  It might be worth your efforts!

6. Interlink A Lot

Use inter-linking strategically to boost page performance on search engines. The more internal link, the higher the Page-rank will be. Add internal links from high-authority, and contextually relevant pages, in need of a boost. This can help them come up in organic google search.

7. Fix the Broken Backlinks

Broken inbound links from other sites may occur because you deleted or shifted a page with backlinks, or because the site made a mistake while linking. You could redirect the broken page to a new location.

This works if you have missed redirecting a URL that backlinked to. You could also provide the URL of another relevant page. Further, if deleting the page was a mistake, you could restore it if you please.

8. Target the Featured Snippets

Google uses features snippets to show a full or partial answer to any query. This is directly shown in the search results page, and the searcher does not have to clink of any of the links on the page. Some studies show that these snippets fetch about 8.9% of all clicks on average, while the #1 page gets 19.6% clicks.

In short, featured snippets are eating into the share of clicks for the #1 page. So how do you target the snipped? Pages that rank on page one of Google stands a better chance of getting the snippet.

That doesn't necessarily have to be #1 rank. If you have content that's featuring on page one, you need to optimize them. For this analyze the snipped from the competing site, that is currently highlighted.

Try to figure out what their content is working.

Maybe your content isn't in the format that searchers want to see. Perhaps it's numbered lists that are working. Maybe, something else. It could also be the fact that you don't have the appropriate HTML markup, and as a result, Google is not able to understand what the content is about.

By following these simple steps, you can boost your SEO without pushing more content down the funnel.
